Chinese property company SuperGen Group has begun the construction of an esports centre in Shanghai’s Minhang District.

SuperGen Group is the parent company of Chinese esports organisation Edward Gaming.

The professional team currently competes at Shanghai Electric Industrial Park.

According to the Esports Observer, a ground-breaking ceremony was held to mark the start of construction.

The centre is expected to be completed by 2023 and will serve as the organisation’s new home venue and office building.

The complex will feature an esports venue capable of hosting 6,000 spectators and a five-star esports-themed hotel.

A breakdancing facility and an indoor skydiving venue will also be housed on site.

The Esports Observer reported that the project is expected to cost $1.5 billion (£1.1 billion/€1.2 billion) in total.

The park is expected to attract esports companies, which it has been suggested could create around 2,000 jobs in the industry.

Around 300 esports events could be held at the park each year.
