Organisers of this year's Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games have revealed the proposed sports programme for the event in Hanoi.

Athletics, badminton, swimming, table tennis, chess, powerlifting, boccia, judo, goalball, wheelchair tennis and archery have all been put forward for inclusion at the Games, scheduled for December 17 to 23.

It is expected to be approved during a meeting of the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) Board meeting later this month.

The update on the programme was given in a report from the ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee to the Board.

The Hanoi ASEAN Para Games 2021 will use a number of venues, including the Mỹ Đình National Stadium, the main venue for the Vietnamese nationall football team.

Other venues proposed include the Mỹ Đình Aquatics Centre, Cau Giay Gymnasium, Bac Tu Liem Gymnasium, Culture House - Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Centre, Hanoi Athletic Palace and the Hanoi National Sports Training Centre.

Topics covered in the meeting included the verification of the 11 sports proposed by the host city, as well as the potential health risks during the COVID-19 pandemic and how organisers will look to safeguard athletes and staff.

The APSF has also requested the Organising Committee to outline COVID-19 measures, including screening and quarantine processes to ensure safety during the Games.

This matter is set to discussed between all 11 Presidents of the National Paralympic Committees.

Vietnam is scheduled to host the ASEAN Para Games for the second time, following the 2003 edition, also held in Hanoi.

There were only five sports at that Games.

ASEAN consists of 11 nations for Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, East Timor and the Philippines.

The 2020 ASEAN Para Games were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
