Two quota places at next year's postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games - one female and one male - will be on offer at both events. 

The African Championships begin tomorrow and are due to conclude on Sunday (December 20).

The sport climbing qualification process for Tokyo 2020 has been severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic as the Asian Championships were cancelled, while some athletes expressed concerns over the European Championships, which went ahead in Moscow last month.

The quotas which had been due to be claimed at the Asian Championships in Xiamen in China will be reallocated based on the rankings from the 2019 World Championships.

Action in Cape Town begins with qualification tomorrow and Friday (December 18), before the first Tokyo 2020 place is secured by the winner of the women's combined event on Saturday (December 19).

The men's combined competition, where the gold medallist will book a Tokyo 2020 ticket, is scheduled for Sunday.

The last two Tokyo 2020 sport climbing quotas will be up for grabs at the Oceania qualifier in Sydney, due to run from Saturday to Sunday.
