Ukraine were clear victors as the nation wrapped up the team title at the European Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Turkish city Mersin - a day after also winning the junior team title.

Ukraine's team, featuring Vladyslav Hryko, Petro Pakhniuk, Igor Radivilov, Roman Vashchenko and Yevgen Yudenkov, competed well on the floor and pommel horse to take an early lead which they never relinquished.

Radivilov scored 14.600 on rings and 14.800 on the vault, while Pakhniuk scored 14.400 on pommel horse and 15.066 on the parallel bars.

These performances were enough to secure the gold for Ukraine, who finished with a total score of 248.963, more than four points ahead of their closest challengers.

Hosts Turkey - first in qualification - suffered a last-minute injury as all-arounder Abdelrahman Elgamal was unable to compete on the floor and vault, hampering Turkey's effort to win the gold.

Elgamal was instead replaced by İbrahim Çolak and Ümit Şamiloğlu respectively in those events.

These replacements could not live up to the usual performances of Elgamal, but Turkey still outscored Ukraine on both the rings and parallel bars.

However, three falls off the high bar sealed their fate and the hosts had to settle for silver instead - the country's first-ever team European medal.

Turkey's total score was 244.793.

Krisztofer Meszaros' final floor routine, which scored 14.333, secured the bronze for Hungary, who had a final score of 240.393.

Israel were fourth and Bulgaria fifth.

Nations such as Italy and Britain are missing from the event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

One more day of competition is still to come, with the apparatus finals scheduled for tomorrow.
