Switzerland's Mauro Caviezel ended his long wait for an International Ski Federation Alpine Skiing World Cup race victory as he won today's super-G in Val-d'Isère.

Caviezel, the defending overall champion in the discipline, completed the course in a time of 1min 01.34sec to clinch what had been an elusive World Cup success for the 32-year-old.

The Swiss athlete finished 0.10sec clear of Norway's Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, while Austrian Christian Walder did enough for third.

Caviezel secured three podium finishes in last season’s six super-G races on his way to wrapping up the crystal globe.

Victory in the opening super-G of the season, his first race following Achilles surgery in June, saw the Swiss keep hold of the overall leader's jersey.

He was able to negotiate tricky conditions on the French course, which is set to play host to a downhill event tomorrow.

"For me, it's unbelievable," Caviezel said.

"It's a great comeback for me.

"There are still more goals but it's a really good feeling.

"I had a bad feeling after second downhill training so it's good for the next races.

"I will see how it works in downhill.

"The rest is step by step but still to improve something."
