The International Netball Federation (INF) has appointed Ian Holloway as its technical delegate for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Holloway, director of the Superleague and competitions for England Netball, will now oversee the netball competition at the Games.

In his role at England Netball, Holloway is responsible for the strategic development and growth of the Vitality Netball Superleague.

When Liverpool in England hosted the Netball World Cup last year, Holloway was the head of sports and competition, and he has previously worked on the International Cricket Council's T20 World Cup and the Women's Hockey Champions Trophy.

"I am delighted and honoured to be appointed into this position," Holloway said.

"Alongside the Netball World Cup, the Commonwealth Games is a pinnacle for the sport and to be a part of Birmingham 2022 as technical delegate is a great privilege.

"I look forward to working alongside the Organising Committee and netball associations on behalf of the INF to ensure that the competition is delivered to the highest standards and showcases the sport in the best possible way."

As technical delegate for netball, Holloway will report to the INF chief executive and Board regarding preparations for Birmingham 2022.

Holloway will also liaise with the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee and England Netball prior to and during the event.

Competition planning, providing technical advice and sharing best practice to ensure netball competition is delivered within INF rules and regulations will all come under Holloway's remit.

"Congratulations to Ian on his appointment as technical delegate," added INF chief executive Clare Briegal.

"Ian has a wealth of knowledge and experience in both sport and netball and INF looks forward to working closely with Ian, the Commonwealth Games Federation and Birmingham 2022 on delivery world-class netball competitions at the Games."

Netball is set to be part of the Commonwealth Games for a seventh time, having debuted at Kuala Lumpur 1998.

England are the defending champions.

Birmingham 2022 is set to be the first major multi-sport Games to offer more medals to women than men.
