Copenhagen was due to hold the competition from April 14 to 17.

The event was originally scheduled to be held this October but was postponed due to the global health crisis. 

Strict Government restrictions have now forced the Danish Gymnastics Federation to withdraw from hosting the Championships entirely. 

Cases of COVID-19 in Denmark have risen in recent weeks, with the country particularly concerned about a new coronavirus strain that has spread from mink to humans. 

The Danish Government recently ordered a nationwide cull of its 17 million farmed mink. 

In total, Denmark has reported more than 71,600 cases of coronavirus and 789 deaths. 

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the Danish Gymnastics Federation for all the hard work already put into the success of this event," a statement from European Gymnastics said. 

"European Gymnastics hereby opens the allocation process again."

Federations interested in holding the event have been urged to contact European Gymnastics. 

The TeamGym European Championships features women, men and mixed teams. 

Athletes perform gymnastic skills in three different disciplines - floor, tumbling and trampette.

The 2018 TeamGym European Championships took place in Lisbon and was won by Denmark, which has won the event 11 times in total.
