The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) has teamed up with consultancy Sport2Sport to help achieve its "ambitious" strategy.

Steve Griffiths, chief executive of the IWRF, said the Dublin-based company had "significant plans" to develop wheelchair rugby following the announcement of the partnership.

Created by John Feehan, the ex-chief executive of the Six Nations, and Derek McGrath, former head of the European Rugby Cup, Sport2Sport has been tasked to deliver a commercial programme that can help the IWRF accomplish its strategic goals.

IWRF is also set to work with Sport2Sport to build partnerships with organisations which share the same values and ambitions for wheelchair rugby.

"It is going to be a pleasure to work with Sport2Sport who have significant plans to assist in the future growth and development of wheelchair rugby, which will assist the IWRF in achieving its strategic goals," said Griffiths.

"They have demonstrated a great enthusiasm for our sport and the IWRF’s values."

"The IWRF Board and I know that we have an exciting sport that can be an attractive proposition to potential partners."

Feehan described wheelchair rugby as an "entertaining", "inspiring" and "transformative" sport and said he was delighted to work on an "ambitious project".

McGrath added: "The IWRF’s purpose is to develop and promote the sport of wheelchair rugby internationally.

"We will be supporting the IWRF in seeking support from global partners who will wear the jersey, share the journey and spread the message."
