Spanish Olympian Joan Cardona secured the eSailing World Championship title after a dramatic final day of racing.

Cardona, a Finn sailor who is a member of the Spain SailGP Team, ended the competition a point clear of compatriot "ramon732@541TOP" to clinch gold.

"ramon732@541TOP" had led going into the last day but was overtaken by Cardona after finishing sixth in the last race.

The result proved costly for "ramon732@541TOP" as Cardona won the race to leapfrog his fellow Spaniard into top spot on the standings.

British eSailor @dejavusailing, winner of the eSailGP Championship and Nations Cup titles this year, was third, a further point adrift.

Cardona is the first Spaniard to win the eSailing World Championship, the first edition of which was held in 2018.

"I struggled a bit at the start,” Cardona admitted.

"But I knew everything was going to be decided in the medal race, if I was consistent enough to be close in points, so I tried to do my best race."

The next eSailing World Championship is due to take place in 2021.
