The International Luge Federation has announced large and small versions of its crystal globe trophy will be awarded this season.

The FIL has traditionally awarded a large crystal globe to the winners of the overall World Cup classification at the end of the 12-race season.

This includes the nine World Cup races and the three Sprint World Cup events.

Crystal globes are awarded to the women’s singles, men’s singles and doubles winners.

The governing body said the new season will see small crystal globes awarded to the athletes who top the respective World Cup and Sprint World Cup classifications.

The large and small FIL overall World Cup crystal balls are made by the company JOSKA.

The FIL say the difference in size will be nine centimetres in height.

The large crystal ball for the overall victory in the World Cup is 45 centimetres high.

Globes for the small disciplines 36 will be centimetres high.

The upcoming Luge World Cup season will be held almost exclusively in Europe because of restrictions imposed to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
