Para-badminton events were postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the European, Pan-American and Asian tournaments scheduled for this month and November.

Continued disruption from the global health crisis has cast doubt on the possibility of holding tournaments in 2021. 

The Para Badminton World Circuit has been postponed until at least 2022, for example. 

BWF secretary general Thomas Lund revealed the governing body were working to ensure there would be opportunities for Para-badminton players to compete soon.

"BWF is not yet able to confirm what next year will look like, but would like to assure all stakeholders – particularly the community of Para-badminton players – that we are looking at opportunities for players to compete again," he said.

Among the tournaments being considered include the last qualification event for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, which has been postponed until 2021. 

The 2021 Para Badminton World Championships and other world ranking tournaments are also being worked on. 

A plan to unfreeze the Para-badminton world rankings will also be communicated once there is a better understanding of the tournament calendar in 2021 and beyond.
