The Mind Sports World University Championship begins tomorrow, with competition taking place online this year due to the coronavirus crisis.

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Championships in chess and bridge comprise the event.

Nations may enter up to five teams in each of the two tournaments.

There will be 551 players, 40 countries and 218 universities taking part in total.

Argentina, China, France, Poland and Serbia are the five countries represented in both the chess and bridge contests.

Bydgoszcz in Poland had been due to host the Mind Sports World University Championship before it was moved online, but the Bydgoszcz Organising Committee has still arranged the competition.

Tornelo is the online platform being used for chess, with Bridge Base Online hosting the bridge competition.

It is due to run until Friday (October 30), with FISU streaming the action on Twitch, VK and YouTube.
