International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Europe has been forced to postpone another of its major events because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The organisation has indefinitely pushed back the Men’s European Championship Division B, which had been due to take place in Athens from November 15 to 23.

IWBF Europe said the tournament would not be played "until the situation with the coronavirus is more controlled".

The body's Executive Council "made the very difficult decision that it would not be appropriate to continue with the plans for November" amid "continuing uncertainty about the COVID-19 pandemic".

"The Council considered evidence of rising infection rates across many areas of Europe, and some Government restrictions on travel are being implemented already," IWBF Europe said in a statement.

"A decision needed to be made soon in order to manage unnecessary costs for the Organising Committee and participating nations."

The Executive Council is set to analyse its calendar of competitions and "prepare new arrangements for when the coronavirus pandemic is in a better position", it added.

The competition in the Greek capital is the latest wheelchair basketball event to be impacted by the global health crisis.

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation last week moved the under-23 Men's World Championship to 2022.

IWBF Europe recently cancelled the preliminary rounds of the 2021 EuroCup, while the under-23 Men's European Championship has also been postponed.
