Murray Elbourn has been appointed as the new chief executive of Disability Sports Australia (DSA).

He will start work on November 16 and replaces Jenni Cole, who announced in May that she was stepping down after six years in the position.

Elbourn has more than 25 years of experience in disability sports.

Previous roles include disability inclusion manager at Sport New South Wales and chief executive of Blind Sports New South Wales.

He has also served as chairman of Goalball Australia.

"I feel very fortunate to be given this opportunity, to lead such a strong organisation within the disability sporting sector," said Elbourn.

"I'm looking forward to working effectively with my team, the Board and our partners to collaborate and deliver our strategic plan."

Elbourn was recently part of the New South Wales Office of Sport's COVID-19 sport recovery group, as the representative for the disability sector.

He has also worked for Energy Action, E Utility and Konica Minolta in the United States.

DSA chairman John Croll said Elbourn was chosen after an "extensive and competitive selection process".

"Murray is an outstanding choice, bringing a wealth of experience from international corporate roles as well as being an athlete, coach and sports administrator," he said.

"Murray's appointment marks an exciting time for Disability Sports Australia and the Board is looking forward to working with Murray to deliver on the organisation's strategic plan to provide opportunities for Australians with a disability so they can be more active, more often."
