The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Plenary Assembly is set to be held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Delegates were set to meet in Limassol in Cyprus on November 13 and 14 after the Plenary Assembly was postponed from March.

The IFSC Executive Board has now decided to hold the Assembly through teleconference as a result of the global health crisis.

A significant number of participants would not be able to travel to the event or would be subject to mandatory testing or a period of quarantine.

The Executive Board also approved the agenda for the meeting, which is expected to touch on preparations for the sport's debut at next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

A strategic plan for the governing body, stretching from 2020 to 2028, is likely to be discussed.

"It is not in the DNA of a climber to give up, that is why we have been waiting so long before taking this painful decision," said IFSC President Marco Scolaris.

"The health and safety of the representatives from our Member Federations has always been our top priority.

"Nevertheless, I'm sure that with all the tools at our disposal, the Plenary Assembly will run smoothly virtually.

"We are looking forward to better days to come."
