Mills, who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident in 1993, crashed coming down the slope and injured the stump of her partly amputated left leg, as well as a thumb.

It is the second time this year that she has hurt herself skiing in the Austrian Alps as in May, during training with the British disabled ski team, she broke her right shoulder blade in several places after falling on the slopes.

The injury forced Mills to miss up to eight weeks training and although her most recent injury is not as severe, she will have to rest for up to five weeks before she can start preparing again for the Sochi 2014 and therefore will miss an important block of training.

Mills said that two male teenagers who came to her aide following her latest crash were scared when they saw her removing the prosthesis.

"When I took off my artificial leg, they screamed in terror because they thought the leg had come off in the accident," she said.

Mills has continually talked up her chances of competing at the Sochi 2014 Paralympics and said that representing Britain at the Games would be very special for her.

"If I managed to compete, it would be phenomenal - very inspiring for all the kids that I counsel," said Mills shortly after being invited to train with the British team.

"They didn't believe they could do anything and now they are trying ice skating and rollerblading and biking and swimming, which is wonderful.

"Having loved sport my whole life, competing in a Paralympics would be a dream come true."
