Paralympic wheelchair basketball coach Tim Frick has been honoured by the Coaching Association of Canada.

Frick, who led Canada's women to three Paralympic Games gold medals in the sport, was given a 2019 Community National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Coach Developer Award, 

The awards recognise individuals who have gone above and beyond to inspire and develop NCCP coaches in their community. 

A total of 17 NCCP coach developers from across the country were recognised with an award for their contributions to the sport system in Canada.

"Tim Frick has invested considerable time and energy into developing and educating NCCP coaches, which has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on the community," Coaching Association of Canada director of marketing and communications Natalie Rumscheidt.

"He is a proven leader who is an invaluable resource and mentor for aspiring coaches. 

"We are honoured to present him with a 2019 Community NCCP Coach Developer Award."

In addition to his years of service within coach education and development, the 67-year-old Frick was also the coach of the Canadian women’s wheelchair basketball team from 1990 to 2009. 

In that time, he won three consecutive Paralympic gold medals and four successive world titles. 

Among his many accolades, Frick is a member of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

"Tim has devoted more than 35 years to the sport of wheelchair basketball and will forever be known as one of the world’s greatest coaches of all-time," said Wheelchair Basketball Canada executive director Wendy Gittens. 

"Tim is an innovative leader and gifted mentor who has played a critical role in the development of Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s NCCP framework. 

"He continues to create an extraordinary and lasting impact on the lives of athletes and fellow coaches at all levels of the game. 

"On behalf of the Canadian wheelchair basketball community, we congratulate Tim on yet another achievement in his distinguished career."
