Henrietta Armah and Benson Addo have been awarded the Sports Writers Association of Ghana prizes for female and male taekwondo player of the year respectively.

Armah, an accounting student at the University of Professional Studies Accra, came second at the 2019 Nigeria Open and won a gold medal at last year's Korean Ambassadors Cup.

Armah beat Syed Sadi Sidra Batool of Pakistan in the under-49-kilogram division final.

She was additionally a quarter-finalist at the 2019 African Games in Moroccan capital Rabat.

Addo, praised for his domestic exploits, competed at both the African Games and Nigeria Open in 2019.

"I would like to thank God Almighty for how far he has gotten me," said Armah after picking up the award.

She went on to thanks friends, family, coaches and the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, which was credited for "making me who I am today".

"As as female athlete I have come through many problems, but it seems the more the problems, the more it strengthens me," Armah added.
