The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) altered the dates of its upcoming election and proposed sending the country's elite boxers to a European training camp at a special general meeting.

BFI members opted to extend the mandate of the Executive Committee due to the coronavirus pandemic posing challenges to the election process.

This includes travel restrictions which are in place in India.

The four-year terms of Executive Committee members were due to expire on Friday (September 25).

Extensions are expected to last for three months, when the official elections will take place.

Ajay Singh will continue as the BFI President until the election.

The proposed tour to Europe, meanwhile, would last 45 days.

It would enable boxers to attend events and training camps as they prepare for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games next year.

The BFI meeting was attended by Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) President Anas Alotaiba, who praised India's efforts to develop boxing between 2016 to 2020.
