World Shooting Para Sport Championships medallist Mirko Cafaggi of Italy returned to action in style as he won the first international Para trap event to be held in the Czech Republic.

Cafaggi topped the podium in the PT3 class after hitting 34 targets at the International Sellier & Bellot Para Trap Competition in Brno.

The Italian shooter, a silver medallist at last year's World Championships in Sydney, edged out compatriot Emilio Poli to lead a one-two for his country at the season-opening event at the Brno Sobesice Shooting Range.

"I am very happy with the competition and with my result," Cafaggi said.

"I would like to thank the organisation, as it was a very good shooting range and a great event."

Germany’s Thomas Hoefs triumphed in the PT1 class, finishing ahead of the Czech duo of Jaroslav Klimes and Roman Telicka, who took silver and bronze, respectively.

Only Czech athletes competed in the PT3 event, won by Milan Kolar.

The tournament in the Czech city was the first to be held since the Para shooting circuit was halted because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Several events in the sport, including the 2020 World Shooting Para Sport Para Trap Championships, have either been postponed or cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
