The world's top players are set to take part in a World Table Tennis (WTT) showcase event in Macau in November.

WTT said the event in Macau, scheduled to run from November 25 to 29, "would provide an opportunity for players, fans and broadcasters to experience a teaser of what to expect when WTT launches its first annual calendar of events in 2021".

Organisers have promised a "thrilling, original playing format" for the showcase, due to feature 16 of the world's best men's and women's players.

The event at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion is set to take place following the restart of ITTF competitions, beginning with the Women's World Cup from November 8 to 10.

"WTT Macau will be a table tennis show like no other before it," said ITTF chief executive and WTT director Steve Dainton.

"We know just how excited our star players are to be starting this journey with us and we are looking forward to entertaining our millions of fans around the world, who have heard so much about WTT.

"After months of waiting to see what this is all about, the time has come to raise the curtain for our first ever exhibition of World Table Tennis."

WTT, the ITTF's new commercial vehicle, was set up by the worldwide body in August 2019, and aims to modernise the commercial business activities of table tennis and is expected to lead to the introduction of a series of new events, with the promise of increased prize money and a more modern experience for fans, broadcasters, players and hosts.

WTT has also promised to deliver world-renowned commercial partners and investors, an exclusive women's tour to further promote the women's game and unrivalled development and high-performance opportunities for future stars.
