Ben QuilterOctober 20 - British Judo have selected their squad for the 2011 European Championships, being held at Crawley next month.

Ben Quilter, the world champion and IBSA World Games gold medallist, will be hoping to add to his medal collection in the -60kg, and is joined by brothers Marc and Daniel Powell, in the -73kg and -81kg categories.

Two-time World Championship runner-up Sam Ingram will be in the -90kg category, though his brother Joe was forced to withdraw from the selection due to injury.

Ian Rose, who has competed in five Paralympic Games, will be taking part in the +100kg and IBSA World Games silver medal winner Lesley Reid is hoping for a first European medal.

Quilter spoke of his hopes ahead of the Games, saying: "Having won World titles in 2010 and 2011 I have been on form and am hoping to add to my medal collection with a European gold at the VI European Championships."

Dave Sanders, the Paralympic Programme Manager, said: "The team have prepared really well for this event and are all looking forward to competing in front of a home crowd at such a major event – the first time many of the players have had the chance to do this.

"With such a strong team and a number of very established medallists, we hope to put on a good show for the crowd."

Paralympic Performance Coach Jean-Paul Bell added: "I am very excited and looking forward to the team competing on home soil.

"All of the players have worked hard over the last two years and it is a great chance for them to test themselves against the best VI players in Europe."
