The International Cycling Union (UCI) has brought forward the 2021 Para-cycling Road World Championships from August to June.

Competition had been scheduled to take place from August 25 to 29 in Cascais in Portugal, but is now due to be held between June 9 and 13.

It has been moved due to a clash with the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, rescheduled for August 24 to September 5 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"The UCI is pleased to have found the optimal solution with the event’s organisers and thanks them for their collaboration," a statement from cycling's worldwide governing body said.

The Para-cycling Road World Championships is an annual event, with last year's competition taking place in Emmen in The Netherlands.

This year's World Championships, which had been due to take place in Ostend in Belgium from June 4 to 7, were cancelled due to the pandemic.
