England's Kyren Wilson beat defending champion and world number one Judd Trump to reach the semi-finals of the World Snooker Championship.

Wilson, the world number eight, recorded a 13-9 win at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield to set up a meeting with Scotland's Anthony McGill, who ousted Norwegian Kurt Maflin 13-10.

Trump reduced his overnight deficit from 10-6 to 11-9 but made a mistake with a safety shot in the following frame, allowing Wilson to move three in front.

Wilson closed out a victory he described as one of the best of his career in style, racking up a 104 break to progress to the last four.

"I wasn't lying when I said I was really looking forward to playing Judd here," Wilson said.

"He is the reigning world champion and world number one so if you can't get up for a match like that in the quarter-finals you will never get up for any.

"It's nice having it under your belt to beat the current world champion.

"You want to see where your game is at when you are playing those players.

"We've seen it is not in bad shape.

"He's set the benchmark for the rest of us so this is definitely up there as one of the best wins of my career."

Five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan fought back to overcome Mark Williams of Wales to book a semi-final place at the World Championship for the first time since 2014.

O'Sullivan trailed 6-2 overnight but produced a resilient display and closed out a battling 13-10 win.

He will meet three-time champion Mark Selby, who beat Australia's Neil Robertson 13-7 in their last-eight clash.
