Kazakh boxer Kamshybek Kunkabayev has signed with management company MTK Global as part of his preparations for the postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The two-time world silver medallist from 2017 and 2019 has been in strong form over the past few years in the over-91 kilograms super heavyweight category, and also won silver in the same years at the Asian Championships.

He is set to make his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 and the 28-year-old is currently the captain of the Kazakhstan national boxing team.

Kunkabayev will now continue his career with MTK Global, under the guidance of head of MTK Kazakhstan, Askar Salikbayev.

"I'm very pleased to be signing with MTK Global," said Kunkabayev.

"I've been really happy with what I have achieved in my career so far and I'm confident that working with MTK and Askar Salikbayev can help me reach the top.

"I have some big goals that I want to accomplish in my career, so I can't wait to continue proudly representing Kazakhstan and show everybody what I am capable of throughout the rest of my career."

Kunkabayev was beaten in the 2019 world final, and the 2017 and 2019 Asian finals, by Uzbekistan's Bakhodir Jalolov.

In the 2017 World Championship final, the Kazakh boxer came up short against Azerbaijan's Magomedrasul Majidov.

"We are honoured to be welcoming Kamshybek Kunkabayev to the team," said Salikbayev.

"He is a hero in Kazakhstan and we're extremely happy to have him join MTK Global.

"He has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, so we're thrilled to have him represent Kazakhstan and MTK Global at that prestigious and iconic event.

"We have really high hopes for what Kunkabayev can achieve in boxing, so it is set to be a very bright future for this exciting star."

MTK Global boast some big names in boxing, including British boxers Billy Joe Saunders, Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton.
