Lazarovski's duties will involve management and maintenance of the rules and competitions in the sports he is overseeing.

He will also oversee the implementation of a corporate plan and budget for the three sports, all of which will be involved at Sochi 2014.

Lazarovski joins from the Ski Federation of Serbia, where he was secretary general for six years.

"The possibility of being in the field and allowing competitors to achieve their highest goals push me further in my daily work," Lazarovski said.

Xavier Gonzalez, the chief executive of the IPC, said: "Dimitrije will be a great addition to the IPC management team and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to a winter sports department that is thriving with just less than three years to go until the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games."
