Sarah StoreyAugust 10 – British Cycling has named 13 riders to represent Great Britain at the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Roskilde in Denmark next month with multiple Paralympic champion Sarah Storey set to spearhead the team's challenge.

The 33-year-old from Manchester (pictured), who claimed two gold medals at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics, will be joined in Denmark by five other Paralympic champions with Darren Kenny, Rachel Morris, Jody Cundy and David Stone also selected for the competition.

Shaun McKeown and Karen Darke, who have shown strong form this year, will also be strong medal contenders at the competition, while a number of promising new riders who have impressed in the recent Para-Cycling Road World Cup series have also been selected.

Rik Waddon, who took silver at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics in the CP3 1 kilometre time trial, is another likely podium contender as is Lora Turnham; who will be piloted by Louise Haston and is full of confidence after winning silver and bronze in a major Road World Cup event in Sydney earlier this year.

In addition, Mark Colbourne, Simon Price and Crystal Lane will be making their Road World Championships debut and a podium in Denmark could take them a step closer to competing at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Team Manager Gareth Sheppard said: "These World Championships are the last important road marker for us before London 2012 and the final opportunity to measure our performance against that of the international field.

"We have therefore selected a squad that is capable of bringing home many medals and scoring as many qualification points as possible.

"We have also given a number of up-and-coming athletes vying for a spot on the London 2012 road team an opportunity to prove themselves at the highest level."

Most riders will compete in both the time trial and the road race as Great Britain can field up to two and three riders per class respectively in the two events.

The event will take from September 8-11 and will be one the biggest event in the sport ahead of the London 2012 Paralympics next year.
