Danielle_Brown_in_profileJuly 17 – Britain's star Danielle Brown underlined her status as favourite for victory at London 2012 as she claimed a gold and two silver medals at the 2011 World Paralympic Archery Championships in Turin.

The 23-year-old from Yorkshire, who claimed gold in the women's individual compound at Beijing 2008, successful defended of her compound world individual title in Turin by defeating Stepanida Artakhinova of Russia.

The victory on the final day of the event followed her silver medal successes earlier in the week in the mixed team final and the women's compound team final.

Brown's feat of claiming a gold and two silvers was matched by John Stubbs secured victory on the final day of the event when he won the compound men's team event along with Richard Hennahane and Eric Thomas as Britain beat South Korea 225-221.

The gold medal triumph made up for Stubbs' disappointment at losing the individual final 6-4 to Switzerland's Philippe Horner, and in the mixed team final, when he and Commonwealth Games Brown were beaten by Russia.

Nevertheless, it was a superb performance from Britain as they claimed a total two gold medals and three silvers and Archery GB Paralympic head coach Tim Hazell admitted he was delighted with the performance.

"We've had a fantastic week and returning home with two golds and three silvers is just superb," he said.

"Dani has proved beyond doubt that she's the best in the world while John was in great form, but Horner was just a bit better.

"But I was delighted that John finally got that gold in the team final and I'm delighted for Richard and Eric.

"This is their reward for incredible hard work, not just during the week, but in the months leading up to this championship.

"I'm so proud of all our archers, it's been a great team effort, and there were some emotional moments today."
