The Women's Fistball World Championship - which was scheduled to take place in Chile in November - has been postponed until 2021 and is to be held in another country.

At a meeting of the International Fistball Association (IFA) Board, the postponement was unanimously agreed in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

There are restrictions on travel and gatherings in place in Chile - where the situation is worsening - and much of the world,.

In announcing the postponement, the IFA also said the health and economic impacts of the pandemic meant the Chilean Fistball Federation would not be able to stage the tournament in 2021.

The IFA hopes to announce new dates and venues for the postponed Women's World Championship, as well as the 2021 World Tour Finals, in July.

"Health is the first priority in our decisions," IFA  President Jörn Verleger said.

"We were in regular contact with the organisers and the national fistball association in Chile and discussed the situation in detail.

"Thanks to our friends in South America for their intensive efforts to find a solution in Chile.

"Unfortunately the efforts were not rewarded.

"The new situation poses a huge challenge and we are forced to look for a new organiser.

"But we are currently in very good negotiations with possible substitute hosts."

Germany have won the last three editions of the Women's Fistball World Championship.

There are no international events left on the fistball calendar in 2020, with the pandemic cancelling or postponing them all.

Among the tournaments postponed until 2021 are the Men's European Championship, Pan-American Championship and Under-18 World Championship.
