The documentary, Across the Line, has been produced by Accessible Media Inc as part of its AMI Originals series, which is aimed at highlighting the challenges and triumphs of Canadians of all abilities.

Across the Line premiered on Friday (May 29).

The documentary follows Canada’s participation at the last-chance wheelchair rugby qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Canada secured one of two berths on offer at the qualifier, which took place in front of a home crowd in Richmond.

France joined Canada in qualifying for Tokyo 2020 in one of the final sporting events prior to the shutdown of competitions due to the coronavirus pandemic, which ultimately led to the Olympic and Paralympic Games being moved to 2021.

The documentary focuses on Byron Green and Trevor Hirschfield, offering insight into their journey through the sport.

The film is available to watch on AMI’s website and will be shown on its YouTube channel.

Canada will be among eight teams seeking wheelchair rugby gold at the rescheduled Paralympic Games, which are due to take place from August 24 to September 5 next year.

The Canadian team are set to join Japan, Australia, Denmark, Britain, the United States, New Zealand and France in the competition.

Canada will hope to secure a medal in the event having missed the podium at Rio 2016, where they suffered a narrow 52-50 loss to Japan in the bronze-medal match.
