World Lacrosse has announced it will hold its General Assembly in October virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The worldwide body said the meeting would take place online on October 18.

World Lacrosse has become the latest International Federation to confirm plans to stage a meeting of its supreme decision-making body virtually in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Federations across the world of sport have been forced to use technology to conduct their business during the pandemic, which has ground international travel to a near complete halt and prompted Governments to ban mass gatherings.

World Lacrosse said further details about the General Assembly, including the agenda, would be published in the near future.

The event is not an elective assembly as President Sue Redfern was re-elected for a second four-year term in 2019.

"During this challenging time, our membership has shown tremendous flexibility in adapting to new meeting formats and utilising technology to share ideas, resources and encouragement," Redfern said.

"Nothing can replace the value of in-person communication and meetings.

"However, in this unprecedented period, we must utilise technology to continue driving our organisation forward and create a format for what I’m certain will be a successful General Assembly."
