The World Squash Federation (WSF) is assessing options to host the World Junior Championships in 2020, while the governing body announced the postponement of the World Masters Championships.

The WSF said the decisions followed a Board meeting held by video, which examined the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the calendar for 2020.

Squash Australia had requested the WBF Board cancel the World Junior Championships, due to be held from July 19 to 30.

A total of 24 countries were due to participate at the event.

The WSF Board agreed to the Squash Australia request earlier this month.

An aim of postponing the event to later this year has been outlined.

The federation said it would evaluate options for organising the World Junior Championships at a later date and monitor the evolution of the pandemic.

The WSF added that support of national federations may be required to find a new date that will ensure the registration of the best junior players.

A decision was also taken to postpone the World Masters Championships, which were due to take place in Poland.

The WSF said it was thankful to the Polish National Federation and the Hasta La Vista Club for their understanding.

The event is now proposed to be organised in 2021.

Further information with regards to age eligibility will be communicated after consultation by the concerned commissions, the WSF said.

The WSF Board reiterated that the health and welfare of athletes remains the first priority.
