Uganda has joined other African countries which are trying to develop the Paralympic sport of wheelchair rugby.

Efforts in the nation follow communication between Uganda and Canada – one of the sport's major powers.

The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) is also involved which has led to the "wheels turning" on the project.

In addition, Kenya has helped out its neighbour by sharing its knowledge in areas including classification and administration.

Wheelchair rugby clinics are now planned in Uganda but these are currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Uganda have a young enthusiastic duo doing what they can to set up an organisation, recruit players and volunteers as well as learning from their neighbour Kenya who have a very strong will to spread wheelchair rugby throughout Africa," an IWRF report said.

"Classification and coaching clinics are in development with Cameroon also, who are working closely with their local able-bodied rugby counterparts for support.
