The governing body made the announcement in its latest update, following a meeting to discuss the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the sport.

BISFed last week confirmed the postponement of the Regional Open in Croatian capital Zagreb and the World Open in French town Laval, with the Nantes Regional Open in France also under review.

The organisation highlighted the worsening coronavirus situation in many countries, before stressing that the welfare of athletes, volunteers and technical officials was its main concern.

"Your Board has today confirmed that all BISFed-sanctioned competitions due to take place in 2020 will be cancelled," a statement from BISFed President David Hadfield read.

"The only possible exception will be the BISFed Dubai Boccia World Open due to take place in December.

"We will review the situation regarding this competition and will make a final decision no later than the end of June 2020.

"We will work with all other Host Organising Committees with a view to rescheduling 2020 boccia competitions into the 2021 season.

"This will be a complex piece of work since all competitions will need to fit into the new BISFed competition system for 2021-2024, and we will have to work around the rescheduled Paralympic Games.

"We will communicate progress on the 2021 competition schedule as soon as possible."

Hadfield added that the organisation hoped athletes understood the decision in these "unprecedented times".

He encouraged athletes to continue attempt to practice and remain active in whatever way they can during the coronavirus pandemic.
