The first ever POLO Rider Cup, a new international tournament between polo clubs, has been postponed until 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The new event was due to take place from July 2 to 12 at Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly near Paris.

Organisers GAME Polo took the decision to postpone the event after consulting with the Fédération Internationale de Polo, the French Polo Federation, and hosts the Polo Club of Chantilly.

A new date for the event has yet to be confirmed, but it is hoped it will take place between May and July 2021.

In a statement GAME Polo said: "We are thankful to all the participating polo clubs, riders, partners, media, and stakeholders for their understanding, support, and continued involvement and association in 2021."

Eight teams were due to feature in the tournament, which according to the organisers is set to be the first official international competition between polo clubs.
