Former Greek skier Andreas Pantelidis has been honoured by the Ski Federation of Pakistan after spearheading the country's ski development programme.

Pantelidis, who competed at the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympics in Alpine skiing, developed two ski centres in Pakistan that operate at international level.

Along with assistance from the International Ski Federation (FIS), the Ski Federation of Pakistan and the Pakistan Government, the new centres constructed by Pantelidis can now host FIS events.

They are located in Malam Jabba and Naltar in the north of the country, with more than 50 athletes this year competing in four international races.

Pakistan's President Arif Alvi honoured Pantelidis himself, with the Greek international extending his gratitude in response.

"I would like to thank Mr Arif Alvi for his contribution and pledge to launch another two ski centres in Pakistan in the coming years, as well as the Pakistan Government and all those who made this happen," said Pantelidis.

Pakistan have had two Alpine skiers, Muhammad Abbas in 2010 and Muhammed Karim in 2014 and 2018, represent the nation at the Winter Olympics.

Their only other athlete to compete at the Winter Games was Syed Human at Pyeongchang 2018, who competed in cross-country skiing.
