The European Handball Federation will look to develop the sport in partnership with the Special Olympics ©EHF

The European Handball Federation (EHF) have agreed a memorandum of understanding with Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia, with the aim to develop and promote the sport for people with intellectual disabilities.

EHF President Michael Wiederer and Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia chief executive officer David Evangelista signed the agreement which will see the two parties deliver content across both of their platforms.

They will also look towards new initiatives to cooperate, and will offer advice and support from both sides to ensure the development of handball.

Nine nations from Europe were represented in handball at the 2019 Special Olympics Summer Games in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, with more than 130 players taking part. 

The Special Olympics have been held since 1968, gaining recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1988.
