FIFA has released a video featuring high-profile managers to support the World Health Organization's (WHO) awareness campaign on the spread of the coronavirus.

Described as "tactics", the video shows managers demonstrating five steps to combat the spread, involving hands, elbow, face, distance and feel.

The recommendations are in-line with the WHO's basic protective measures against COVID-19.

The video begins with FIFA chief of global football development, Arsène Wenger, urging the public to follow the steps amid the crisis.

"It starts with your hands," said Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham Hotspur head coach.

"Please, wash your hands frequently, if possible, with an alcohol-based hand solution."

Frequent washing with soap and water kills viruses that may be on your hands, along with alcohol-based hand solutions.

"With your elbows bent, please cover your nose and mouth if you sneeze or cough," said Casey Stoney, the Manchester United women's team coach.

"If using tissues, dispose of them immediately."

Droplets spread the coronavirus, which has now been declared a pandemic by WHO.

It is hoped that by following respiratory hygiene, people around you can be protected from contracting viruses, such as cold, flu and coronavirus.

"For your face, avoid touching your eyes, your nose and your mouth," said Aliou Cissé, Senegal's national team coach.

"This can prevent the virus from entering your body."

"In terms of social interaction, take a step back," said José Mourinho, the 2010 FIFA World Coach of the Year for men's football, and the current Tottenham Hotspur manager.

"Stay one metre distance minimum from everyone that coughs or sneezes."

Social distancing has become an increasingly important tactic used by countries to help combat the virus.

It is viewed as key to avoiding breathing in any droplets from someone who sneezes or coughs in close proximity.

"If you feel unwell, stay home," said Jill Ellis, the coach of the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup-winning United States teams.

"In some countries isolation might be advisable for healthy persons too.

"Please follow all instructions from your local health authority."

Should people develop a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, they are advised to seek medical attention and call in advance.

The video concludes with FIFA President Gianni Infantino urging people to follow the WHO's advice.

"So please keep yourselves informed at all times," Infantino said.

"Follow these recommendations and support the WHO in their efforts to tackle the coronavirus.

"Together, we will win this difficult match."

Football is among the sports to have been heavily impacted by the outbreak, with domestic leagues halted during the crisis.

Continental and international events have also been affected.
