International Cycling Union (UCI) WorldTour team Mitchelton-Scott have reacted to the coronavirus crisis, which means they will not be taking part in any events in the foreseeable future, by launching their own special events on Zwift, the online cycling programme.

Recreational riders will get the opportunity to race the likes of The Netherlands' three-time World Championships gold medallist Annemiek van Vleuten, South Africa's two-time Tour Down Under winner Daryl Impey and Britain's 2018 Vuelta a España champion Simon Yates.

The team have now released details of a full series as part of the Tour of Watopia, one of the virtual worlds on Zwift.

Yates and New Zealand's Georgia Williams are leading two "pace and race" specific rides, with a number of the events to be streamed live by Zwift and on the Mitchelton-Scott Facebook page.

Fans will have the chance to join in a "Pro Workout" as they train alongside the professionals in workouts designed by the team's coaches.

Australian road race champion Amanda Spratt and recent Vuelta a Andalucia stage winner Jack Haig are also due to lead rides as fans are invited to take on the "Mountain Goat Challenge".

Fans will not only have the opportunity to ride with the Mitchelton-Scott professionals, but they will also have the unique opportunity to win an entry to race in teams with them in an exclusive competition.

The UCI have already established strong links with Zwift, which will host the first-ever UCI Cycling Esports World Championships on its platform next year.

Zwift allows players to ride their bicycles on stationary trainers while navigating through six virtual worlds, including Watopia.

The event is due to last until next Sunday (March 22) and the full schedule can be found by clicking here
