Egypt's Hania El Hammamy came from behind to knock out France's third seed Camille Serme as the two players enjoyed another intense battle at the Black Ball Squash Open in Cairo.

The reigning world junior champion and ninth seed recorded a 9-11, 11-8, 13-11, 13-11 success on home soil at the Professional Squash Association World Tour Platinum tournament at Black Ball Sporting Club.

Both players have contested two recent five game epics, with El Hammamy bouncing back from 2-0 down to send Serme packing at the Women's World Championships in Giza in November.

Serme took her revenge earlier this month at the Windy City Open in Chicago, but today came unstuck against the 19-year-old again.

"It was such a hard match mentally and physically," said El Hammamy.

"I'm so pleased to be able to beat one of the players in the top five.

"Playing Camille is always physical, we both like to run even if the shot is perfect, we still go for it and keep getting the balls back, so it's always tough to play against her.

"The rallies never end."

El Hammamy will now face eighth seed Amanda Sobhy in the quarter-finals after the American beat compatriot Olivia Blatchford Clyne 11-9, 11-2, 11-5.

Top seed and 2017 world champion Raneem El Welily was awarded a walkover against fellow-Egyptian Yathreb Adel, who withdrew injured when 3-0 down in the first game.

Egypt's fourth and fifth seeds Nour El Sherbini and Nour El Tayeb both went through in straight games against fellow home players.

El Sherbini, the reigning and four-time world champion, beat Nadine Shahin 11-2, 11-6, 11-5 to book a meeting with France's Coline Aumard.

Double World Championship medallist El Tayeb was too strong for Rowan Elaraby, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6, and will now meet El Welily.

England's seventh seed Sarah-Jane Perry will meet Egypt's Nada Abbas in the remaining quarter-final, with all of the last eight matches tomorrow.
