Tokyo 2020 berths could be sealed at the International Gymnastics Federation Apparatus World Cup in Baku, which begins tomorrow.

Four days of competition are planned at the National Gymnastics Arena in Azerbaijan's capital, at the penultimate leg of the World Cup season.

Olympic berths on offer through the World Cup circuit are for the athletes themselves, not for their National Olympic Committees.

Gymnasts who qualify for the Games can perform on any and all apparatus in Tokyo, and try to qualify for the all-around final.

Men's floor victory in Baku will seal the series title and an Olympic place for Spain's Rayderley Zapata.

He won European Games gold on floor in Baku in 2015 and World Championship bronze in the discipline in 2015.

Japan's Urara Ashikawa is also aiming for victory on the women's beam to wrap up the series title and book a place at her home Olympics.

The winners of the other apparatus will not be known until the season finals at the Doha World Cup.

Action at the event in Qatar has been postponed until between June 3 and 6 because of the coronavirus outbreak.

It was due to be held next week between March 18 and 21.

Other gymnasts hoping to qualify for Tokyo 2020 through the circuit include Greece's reigning Olympic rings champion Eleftherios Petrounias.

Japan's 2013 world pommel horse champion Kohei Kameyama is also battling to compete at an Olympics on home soil.

Countries can only qualify one male and one female athlete for the Olympics through the World Cup.

The circuit began in Cottbus in Germany in November 2018.
