The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League West Zone has temporarily been put on hold while officials determine how to ensure the remaining group matches are played amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The AFC met with the West Zone representatives in Qatar’s capital Doha and United Arab Emirates city Dubai this weekend and were provided with a series of proposals for completing the Champions League group stage by competing Member Associations (MAs).

"All matches in AFC Champions League match day three were postponed in the West Zone and the AFC has now asked for the cooperation of the Member Associations in producing a plan by which the remaining matches can be played before the round of 16," a statement from the continental governing body reads.

The quarter-finals will be moved to September and the semi-finals to October 14 and 15, and 28 and 29.

The AFC Champions League final dates will remain unchanged, taking place on November 22 and 28.

Last week, the AFC announced that members of the East Zone, with competing teams in the AFC Champions League, had agreed to extend the dates of the knockout rounds to allow for more time to complete the disrupted group-stage fixtures.

Matches scheduled for March and April which cannot be played will be moved, with the third matchday's fixtures now due to take place on May 19 and 20.

The fourth matchday is scheduled for May 26 and 27, with the fifth set for June 16 and 17.

The final group-stage matchday is now pencilled in for June 23 and 24.

"As with the East Zone, the MAs provided some proposals which will now be considered by the AFC and the various stakeholders, including commercial partners," today's statement from the AFC adds.

"The AFC will then make a further statement on any developments and any potential new schedule in due course."

FIFA warned last week, after a meeting with the AFC, that this month's Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup could also be postponed.
