The Canadians opened the day at the Richmond Olympic Oval with a convincing 62-35 triumph over Colombia.

They followed that up by beating Brazil - the team they beat to finish seventh at Rio 2016 - 58-36.

Whereas that result meant Canada ended the day with three wins from three games, Brazil - who played only once today - have three defeats from their three matches.

France joined Canada on three wins after a successful day.

They too beat Colombia, winning 54-36, and also defeated Sweden 48-31.

However, the Swedes did enjoy success in the last encounter of the day, picking up a narrow 48-44 win over Switzerland.

Both Sweden and Colombia have one win and two losses.

Switzerland were involved in a thriller earlier in the day but again found themselves on the wrong end of the result, losing 45-46 to Germany.

The Swiss have one win and three defeats, having played a game more than everyone else.

Germany now have two wins and one loss.

Following Thailand’s withdrawal from the event over the coronavirus outbreak, the seven teams are now in a round-robin group.

The top four will advance to playoff games, with the two winners earning a place at Tokyo 2020.

Action continues in Richmond tomorrow, with five games scheduled.

Canada, Germany and France will each play twice.
