Daryl Selby of England set up a clash with world number one Mohamed ElShorbagy at the Windy City Open in Chicago, a Professional Squash Association event.

Selby endured a 98-minute battle against Lucas Serme of France in the first round of competition at the University Club of Chicago, coming back from 2-1 down to triumph 15-13, 8-11, 5-11, 12-10, 11-8. 

He will now play ElShorbagy, who received a bye into the second round as second seed. 

The 29-year-old Egyptian is also the defending champion, having claimed the title in 2018.

“It was a good game, a hard battle, and I’ll look forward to 96 minutes against Mohamed tomorrow," Selby said.

Leo Au of Hong Kong is set to meet the men's top seed, Ali Farag of Egypt, after a comprehensive 11-3, 11-3, 11-5 win over Shahjahan Khan of the United States. 

In the women's contest, Julianne Courtice of England eased past Danielle Letourneau of Canada 11-6, 11-9, 11-4.

Her next opponent will be the top seed and world number one, Raneem El Welily of Egypt. 

Compatriot and second seed Nour El Sherbini is expected to face Joey Chan, who defeated fellow Hong Kong player Tong Tsz-wing 11-8, 11-4, 11-7.

Competition continues tomorrow with the second round.
