Norway's Jarl Magnus Riiber will be looking to end his long wait for an International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Combined World Cup tour win in Lahti when he competes in the Finnish city this weekend.

Lahti is one of the few places where Riiber, who was confirmed as the overall FIS Nordic Combined World Cup champion in Trondheim on Sunday (February 23) after recording his 13th win in 15 races this season, has never stood on the podium.

The 22-year-old can become the most successful Norwegian Nordic combined skier ever by claiming his 27th World Cup victory.

Among his likely challengers is Germany’s Johannes Rydzek, a winner of four gold medals when Lahti hosted the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

The Austrian team will have to compete without Johannes Lamparter, who is fighting for medals at the FIS Nordic Junior and Under-23 Cross-Country World Ski Championships in Oberwiesenthal in Germany.

Also not available for the side is Franz-Josef Rehrl, who got hit in the ribs by Japanese skier Gô Yamamoto’s ski in a racing accident in Trondheim last weekend.

Following tomorrow’s Gundersen large hill HS130/10 kilometres provisional competition round, a team sprint HS130/2x7.5km event is due to take place on Saturday (February 29).

Action is then scheduled to conclude with the Gundersen large hill HS130/10km competition on Sunday (March 1).

Lahti is hosting the third-last leg of the 2019-2020 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup season.

The last two stages are set to be held next month, in Norway's capital Oslo and Schonach in Germany.
