The final of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger Tour event in Italian city Bergamo has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The final was set to feature France's Enzo Couacaud and Ukraine's Illya Marchenko.

As reported by tennis.com, both players were unsuccessful in their request to play the final with no crowd watching.

They will receive points and prize money for reaching the title match.

The World Para Swimming World Series leg in Italian city Lignano is among other sporting events to be cancelled.

Football matches in Italy's top-flight Serie A have been postponed, while there are fears for next month's Milan-San Remo classic cycling race.

Numerous other sporting events around the world have either been delayed or called off due to the virus.

More than 2,700 deaths have been reported in all, with more than 81,000 total cases.

The vast majority of patients are in China.

World Health Organization expert, Bruce Aylward, has warned that countries outside China are "simply not ready" for a pandemic.
