It's her first Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) title for almost two years.

Park began the final round three-shots clear of fellow South Korean Cho A-yeon and held at seven-shot lead at one stage on the back nine.

She bogeyed holes 14 and 16 to keep things interesting, but ended up winning by three strokes ahead of the United States' Amy Olson.

A seven-times major champion, Park's last LPGA victory came in March 2018 - so long ago that it won't count towards Olympic qualification.

Despite being ranked 17th in the world at the start of the week, she would not qualify for Tokyo 2020 as things stand because of how strong South Korean women's golf is. 

No country can send more than four players to the Olympic Games.

World number one Ko Jin-young, number two Park Sung-hyun, Kim Sei-young and Jeongeun Lee6 are the top-ranked South Korean players at present, but it’s where they fall in the world rankings on June 22 that will decide their fate.

Park, who has played in fewer tournaments in recent years because of injuries, intends to enter more events this year in an effort to amass plenty of ranking points.

"I’m starting early because it’s an important year," Park previous told Golf Channel.

"I wanted to give myself a lot of opportunity."

However, the next two events on the LPGA calendar - the Honda LPGA Thailand, due to take place from February 20 to 23 in Pattaya, and the HSBC Women’s World Championship, scheduled to be held from February 27 to March 1 in Singapore, have been removed because of coronavirus fears.

The Bank of Hope Founders Cup, which Park won in 2018, is therefore the next LPGA tournament she can enter as she bids to make perhaps the hardest Olympic team to qualify for in the sport.

"The US men’s team is pretty tough as well, but, in women’s golf, I think it has to be, definitely, the toughest team to make," Park has said.

The Tokyo 2020 women's golf competition will start on August 5 at Kasumigaseki Country Club.
