Canada qualified for both finals as the Badminton Pan Am Male and Female Cup continued in Salvador.

The country are the holders and top seeds in both the men's and women's events in Brazil.

Four-time Pan American Games champion Michelle Li set the Canadians on their way as they knocked out hosts Brazil 3-0 in the women's last four.

After a marathon first game the former Commonwealth Games gold medallist eventually defeated Fabiana Silva 29-27, 21-11 at the Centro Pan-Americano de Judô venue.

Brittney Tam then beat Jackeline Luz 21-7, 21-10 and Jacqueline Cheung wrapped up the victory with a 21-11, 21-9 success over Jeisiane Alves.

Canada will now meet second seeds United States in the women's final after their 3-0 win over Mexico.

Natalie Chi won the first rubber in three against Haramara Gaitan, 21-14, 13-21, 21-18.

Esther Shi got past Sabrina Solis 22-20, 21-15 to move the Americans to the brink and Sanchita Pandey completed the job by seeing off Jessica Jazmin Bautista Trigueros 21-11, 22-24.

The Canadian men had to come from behind to beat Guatemala 3-1 in their semi-final.

Two-time Pan American Games gold medallist Kevin Cordon got the better of Jason Anthony Ho-Shue 21-18, 21-15 but that was as good as it got for his team.

Brian Yang beat Ruben Castellanos 21-16, 21-13 to level the tie and Canada went in front after Antonio Li's 22-20, 22-20 success against Christopher Salvador.

Canada's Joshua Hurlburt-Yu and Nyl Yakura settled the contest by winning a doubles rubber 21-14, 21-15 against Jonathan Solis and Anibal Marroquin.

Mexico reversed the result of the women's semi-final by beating the US 3-1 to go through.

Lino Munoz ousted Howard Shu 21-13, 21-16 to get the first Mexican point on the board but the tie was level after Timothy Lam came from behind to defeat Job Castillo 17-21, 21-17, 21-18.

Luis Navarro got the better of Sattawat Pongnairat, 21-13, 14-21, 21-16, to put the Mexicans back in front, and then teamed up with Lopez Andres to win the decisive doubles.

They beat Phillip Chew and Ryan Chew 21-19, 21-18.

Both finals will take place tomorrow.

The men's winners will qualify for the Badminton World Federation Thomas Cup, with the women's champions going into the Uber Cup.

Last week, the Falkland Islands made a formal complaint against Argentina after claiming the country put pressure on them to withdraw from the event.
