Canada continued their 100 per cent start to the defence of their men's and women's titles at the Badminton Pan Am Male and Female Cup in Salvador.

The Canadian women claimed a comfortable 5-0 win over Mexico in at Centro Pan-americano de Judô in the Brazilian city.

Canada's men also proved too strong for Mexico, earning a 4-1 victory to maintain their perfect record in Group A.

Both of the Canadian teams had already qualified for the semi-finals, scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Canada's women face hosts Brazil, while Mexico entertain the United States in the other last-four encounter.

In the men's semi-finals, Canada play Guatemala and Mexico go up against the US.

The Canadian women ended their group campaign in style, winning all five rubbers in a convincing victory over their Mexican opponents.

Brittney Tam got the first Canadian point on the board by defeating Haramara Gaitan 22-20, 21-18, before Catherine Choi beat Vanessa Villalobos Vazquez 21-13, 21-11.

Wen Zhu Yang sealed the win for Canada by overcoming Jessica Bautista Trigueros 21-14, 21-17.

Lino Munoz of Mexico beat Jason Anthony Ho-Shue of Canada 22-20, 21-15 in the men's event to give his side the best possible start.

But Canada hit back with victory in the remaining four rubbers to secure victory.

Earlier this week, the Falkland Islands made a formal complaint against Argentina after claiming the country put pressure on them to withdraw from the event.
