The Caribbean Teqball Championship is set to take place this weekend in Mayagüez.

Action will be spread across two days in the Puerto Rican municipality.

Last August's Panam Sports General Assembly in Lima was attended by International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) head of international relations Marius Vizer Jr, who stated there that the world governing body is "determined to provide more opportunities to play teqball throughout North, South and Central America and the Caribbean".

FITEQ was officially granted observer status by the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) last month.

Observer status is viewed as the first step for sports who hope to earn full membership of GAISF, the umbrella body for all International Federations.

Joining GAISF is a key step for any sport hoping to make the Olympic programme, which is a long-term ambition for teqball.

Vizer Jr was recently appointed as FITEQ's new general secretary.
